What does a Professional Organizer do?

A Professional Organizer has the experience to bring order to your chaos and provide you with personalized systems that work for you.   It involves creating solutions that will last a lifetime.  The results are more time and less stress both

at home and at the office.

How long have you been doing what you do and how did you get to be a Professional Organizer expert?


I have been a professional organizer since 1997.  I realized that the work I did for 25 years -- as producer in TV

and radio, as executive assistant and running a restaurant and catering service all involved organizing and management skills. In 1999 I started my own company "Ship Shape Organizers."

Who are your clients?


My clients are artists, writers, retired professionals and people who are going through major changes in their lives.

I also assist in their personal projects such as organizing events or researching/editing their books.

Ship Shape organizes small businesses and works individually with employees in large companies.

What are your fields of expertise?

I am known as the "Paper Doctor." I set up efficient filing systems, both at home and at the office.

I can assist you with your business, from setting it up to running it efficiently.

If you are a parent, I can assist in applying for schools, camps and financial aid.

I organize homes, including space planning.

Can you provide other services?


Yes. I have a list of qualified professionals I can refer you to.

For example if you need an interior designer, an architect, an accountant, a lawyer, a computer technician ...

How are you different from other professional organizers?

This is my career, not a part time job.

You will find that I am passionate about my work and that I have a sixth sense for it. 

I support and encourage my clients in organizing their lives and reaching their goals.

What type of personality do you work best with and what is expected of your clients?


I work best with people who sincerely want to change, who are cooperative, and who are keen.

I expect my clients to be open to suggestions and to work with me as a team.

What type of personality should not hire an organizer?


People who do not sincerely want to improve their lives and their organizational skills.

People who find that nothing works for them.

Does hiring a professional organizer really work?


Absolutely. A professional organizer is a nonjudgmental expert who provides immediate and efficient solutions

to your organizational problems. Hiring a professional organizer is an investment in yourself that frees you from unnecessary burdens and allows you to live life to the fullest .

What results can I expect?


You will be in control and feel accomplished, knowing where everything is.

You will save time and money because you can focus on what is important to you.

How quickly can I expect results?


Immediately. You will get results in the first three hours we work together.

Can I contact some of your clients to see what it’s like to work with you?


I would be happy to provide you with names and phone numbers of my clients.

How can I guarantee myself that I will be organized all the time?


I offer a plan where I work with you weekly, bi-weekly or monthly - whatever you need to keep you on track.

Will I recover the investment I put into getting organized?


Yes. Once you are in control of your environment, you will be able to focus efficiently on what you want and need.

You will also find that you have more time to spend with your family and friends.

That is what I call an investment in "happiness."

What does getting organized entail?


I come to your home or office and work with you “project by project.”
The first time we meet, we start organizing what is most important to you and what needs immediate attention.

For example, we can start by getting your desk in order or by de-cluttering a much needed room, then continue

with other projects.

How long will it take?


It can take anywhere from three hours to several days or months. It depends on your needs and goals.

Do clients ever come back to you?


All the time. I have developed an ongoing working relationship with many clients over the years.

In some cases I consult with clients over the phone or provide services for them while they are traveling.

Will I work with you or do you send staff in your place?


You will always work with me.

I will hire staff when I need a team to work on larger projects, but they will always work under my direct supervision.

What are your fees?


I offer two different plans:

Essentially Organized,”, where you pay an hourly rate as needed (3-hour minimum per session).

All Organized,”, where you buy 12 hours at 10% discount, broken down to two or three sessions per month.

Do you give consultations?


Yes. With Ship Shape’s consultation you can get the job done by yourself.
I will visit your home or office and create a "how to" plan for your specific needs.
The length of a consultation depends on the size of the “organizing” project.

I would like to start but don't know which plan I need, how can I find out?


Call me for a free phone consultation and we can determine which is the best plan for you.

Then we can set up an appointment.

I’m not sure I’m ready to get started. Can I sample your work at a low cost?


You can start with the “Essentially Organized" plan for a 3- hour session.

I have a family and a busy life. I don't have much time to spare. When can we meet?


We can meet on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Several clients of mine have regular office hours, so I will work with them on Saturdays.

Do I need to buy organizing tools before you come?


No. Do not buy anything before we assess the situation either by phone or during our first session.
